How I made 2590 euro blogging in 2015Geplaatst op
I think the income of bloggers is the most mysterious thing there is. It seems not done to speak about income even tough we could learn a lot from reading about the income of other bloggers. We could help each other with setting your blog up as a business and letting it grow. Mainly because of this reason, I decided to share with you what I made during my first year of my blog being my own business as well. Apart from this, I’ll also share how you can do the same.
I can’t remember the day that I didn’t have a website of didn’t spend blogging.
On Januari 14th 2015, I registered Without Elephants at the chamber of commerce and made it my own business. Before I made the decision to register my blog as a company, I had been in contact with more and more companies that couldn’t or wouldn’t pay unless I had an offical business and tax number. This was my main reason to schedule a meeting at the chamber of commerce and register my blog as my business.
After doing so, I noticed that companies took my blog a lot more seriously. Because of that, I became more serious about my blog as well. I finally could see it as becoming my own company. Something I had been dreaming of for years now. Even tough my blog income started growing from that moment on, I am still a very small blogger compared to others out there. I don’t earn enough to make a living, but we all need to start somewhere when we want to make our dreams come true.
Before I will give you the exact numbers of how much I made during 2015, I want to say that it scares me like crazy to publish this article online. When I am writing this, I still don’t know if I will publish it in the end. Especially since it seems such a large taboo to share your blog income, I am scared for the consequences it could have. On the other hand, I know how incredibly helpful it can be to read about the income of other bloggers and I hope that with this post, I can start some movement where we can learn form each others blog businesses.
Another thing that I want to note is that this is my blog income before tax and before any payments that I make for my blog every year. (Yes, blogging isn’t a free hobby. I’ll write more about that later.)
This is what I earned in 2015
Quartile 1: € 272, 25
Quartile 2: € 610, 24
Quartile 3: € 511, 83
Quartile 4: € 1196,-
As you can see, the line of income is going up steadily during the year. In Quartile 3 there is a small income dip because of a company that didn’t pay their invoice. Sadly enough, I experience more and more often that companies “forget” to pay for their invoices and I have to send then a reminder and give them a call before they pay the money I worked for.
Besides that, I started reading a lot about blogging and in how to treat a blog as a business. Doing that made me realize how much a blog is actually worth for other companies. This realization helped me create good prices for my services and gave me a stronger negotiation position when companies want to cooperate with me.
Somewhere halfway the year I became much more critical in the choice of companies to work with. Offcourse I feel flattered when a company want to work with me, but when their product doesn’t suit the purpose of my blog for 100%, I really have to let the cooperation go. Even tough this feels really strange to do at first. (Why say no to money right?) but in the long term working with the wrong companies will be at the cost of the quality of Without Elephants. When writing a blogpost for the wrong company, it will be less read as well, so in the end, the company working with me will also benefit less from it. Surprisingly this decision made my income and my statistics only increase.
The last thing I tried to do, is to always keep my eyes open for new opportunities. Dare to jump now and then, who knows what it will bring you.
Things I want to focus on in 2016
As you might know by now, it is a dream for me to earn a full income with my blog. This dream and goal will stay with me during 2016. It will be something to work towards. With my growing visitors of the last couple of months, I am already working towards that goal. Besides focussing on the growth of my blog, I also want to learn more about the legal side of blogging. Since I now had small problems with payments several times, I am thinking about creating something like a contract before agreeing on new cooperations. If you have any experience with things like that, then I would love to get a message or email from you.
Last but not least, I will focus on the quality of my blogposts. I want to create great content for Without Elephants, the quality of the content should only improve in 2016.
How do you earn money blogging? and how did you do in your first year?
