OMG, I have no idea how I shall start this blogpost. I am so hyper about this new adventure that I have no idea where I shall start telling my story. I am going to run a half marathon… in Disneyland Paris!
I have been talking about it for a while now: Someday I will run a half marathon. I didn’t know where or when it would happen, but that it would happen was something that was for sure. After reading Live Love Run, by Annemerel de Jongh I decided to start training for a half marathon. I still hadn’t signed up for any run, but when there is a new goal to work up to, it is always easier to keep training and keep on going. After a couple of weeks training, I encountered the RunDisney runs in America. What? Running in the most magical place on earth? That seemed like a dream to me. I am still a small girl at heart, so I couldn’t get any happier when I found out that a comparable race would be held in Disneyland Paris this year.
I didn’t know how fast I could tell Melvin all this great news. I wanted to book the trip right away. No way I was gonna let this amazing opportunity pass. It’s like two bucket list items in one. Run half a marathon and visit one of the Disney parks. (I have never been to any Disney park in my life, something that seems a bit like a missing part of my childhood or something.)
Is it safe to participate in RunDisney Paris?
To be very honest, the decision to actually make the reservation wasn’t easy at all. Considering all the horrible things that happened in Paris and Brussels lately, I really didn’t know if it would be a wise decision to book a trip anywhere near those places. Especially not when joining a larger event. I still don’t know if this is a wise decision, however RunDisney Paris is still six months away so enough time to think about the issue.
Six months to go
When the decision was made to make a reservation for the RunDisney weekend, I called Disneyland Paris first thing in the morning. We wanted to run both the 5K on Saturday and the half marathon on Sunday morning. When I want to finish a half marathon, I really need to focus on getting myself to the finish line. In order to be able to enjoy the experience and take a lot of pictures we decided to run the 5K family run as well. So we won’t have to worry about pictures during the half marathon.
I was scared all the bibs would be sold out. In America most of the runDisney events are sold out in about 20 minutes. Since the sale of the race in Paris had already started last October, I was really scared there would be no place for us left. However, we were lucky and there were still some placed on both the Family run and the half marathon. Now the real work will start.
Even tough it is still six months till the event, I already have so much more motivation to train well. I also have watched every single movie there is on the internet about the runDisney weekends and I have read every single blogpost. If I missed any, please send them to me because I will read them! In the next couple of months I will take you with me on my journey to the runDisney half marathon in Paris. A large variation in posts about my training, toughts and all other things that need to be prepared before one can run a half marathon.
Is there any special day of the week on which you would like to read these updates? In case you have, just leave a comment. I will try to schedule the posts on your favorite days!
